We are a group of pianists, mostly amateurs, who meet in central Manchester every fortnight to play and listen to each other playing.

The group has been going for over 30 years.   Its aims are simply to share the enjoyment of playing the piano, and to encourage one another to improve and try new pieces.

Some members travel from Derbyshire, Yorkshire and north Lancashire, such is their enthusiasm.

Tastes vary widely.   Most of us play ‘classical’ pieces — from the 17th to the 21st century.   Others play jazz standards.

Bring along your party pieces.  Brush up your old piano exam pieces.

We take it in turns to play, usually one or two pieces lasting about 5 minutes in all.  The group listens carefully and may offer encouraging comment.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. There is no pressure to play if you don’t feel ready — and the only person who will criticise your playing is You!

We charge £10 per meeting to cover the hire of the hall with its Yamaha grand piano. A concessionary rate of £5 is available to anyone who finds this too much.

Join in socially over the tea and biscuits when we close at 4 pm.

The Alberti Piano Group has the minimum of formal organisation.  We focus on enjoying playing and listening to the piano.
